About Queenstown Medical Centre

Queenstown Medical Centre (QMC) was established by the late Dr Pat Farry in 1970 who had a vision of a practice based on a collegial and co-operative relationship between doctors and nurses. Whilst this concept has become more main stream in recent years it was extremely progressive for the time.

QMC continued Dr Farry’s visionary start when in 2001 we established our Isle Street Surgery to facilitate the concept of an integrated family health centre where our patients could access multiple healthcare providers in one location. Today, in addition to our general practice, Isle Street also houses the only 365 day a year, 12 hour a day Accident and Medical Clinic in the Wakatipu and facilitates access to a range of health care services including: Radiology and Ultrasound, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Immigration Medicals, Travel Medicine and Sexual Health and Family Planning.

Isle Street is also host to a variety of visiting private specialists offering: general surgery, endoscopy, psychiatry, dermatology, opthalmology, paediatrics, plastic surgery and urology services to name a few. We now operate across three sites, Queenstown, Arrowtown and Remarkables Park and our team consists of 13 Vocationally Registered General Practitioners, 16 Practice Nurses, 10 receptionists and 6 Clinical and Administrative support staff. In the winter months we employ additional doctors and nurses to cater for the inevitable influx of tourists to the ski fields.

All 3 of our surgeries hold the nationally recognised quality accreditation for general practice, Cornerstone and collectively have far in excess of 50,000 patient encounters annually.

We pride ourselves in our ongoing commitment to the development of primary care and are a registered teaching practice with Otago University and the Royal College of General Practitioners.

QMC sees enhanced co-operation between primary and hospital level services at secondary and tertiary levels with the empowerment of community based health organisation as the most appropriate model for future progress in health and service delivery locally in the Wakatipu and New Zealand as a whole.

Medical Elective

As a teaching practice, QMC is affiliated with the University of Otago School of Medicine and NZ College of GPs. We have a long standing commitment to 5th year students throughout the year on their rural rotation, trainee interns and registrars from Post Graduate GP placements as well as student nurses throughout the year.  In addition to this, we no longer provide medical services on the skifields.

Due to the aforementioned, we are unable to assist with overseas student placements and their continued studies.
