What nurses can help with

Nurses play a vital role in your healthcare journey

👩⚕️ Nurses at QMC: Who They Are and How They Can Help

At Queenstown Medical Centre, our nurses are highly skilled professionals who play a vital role in your healthcare journey. With the opening of our new practice at Remarkables Park and changes across our locations, we want to help you make informed choices about who to book with—especially when a nurse might be the best fit for your needs.

🧠 What Nurses Can Do

Our nurses are trained to deliver a wide range of services, including:

  • Wound care and dressings
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Cervical smears
  • Ear syringing/suction
  • Liquid nitrogen treatments (lesions must be seen by a GP first)
  • ECGs, audiograms, and spirometry
  • Health checks and monitoring for chronic conditions
  • Support with ACC injuries and rehabilitation

They also provide education, lifestyle support, and follow-up care, often working closely with doctors and nurse practitioners to ensure continuity and quality of care.

Some of our nurses have additional training and qualifications in travel health and contraceptive devices – please search for the speciality clinics by name as our regular nurse appointments will not be appropriate for these more specialised services.

💊 Prescribing and Diagnosing

For diagnosing, treating, and prescribing, you’ll need to book with a doctor or nurse practitioner. While we do have some nurse prescribers within our team, their availability can vary and may not be visible in the booking system. To be sure, we recommend booking with a doctor or nurse practitioner if your concern may require a diagnosis or prescription.

🧭 Making the Right Booking

If you’re unsure who to book with, here’s a quick guide:

Each of our practices—Remarkables Park, Isle Street, and Jack’s Point—is staffed with Healthcare Assistants, Practice Nurses, and Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs). HIPs are available at Remarkables Park and Isle Street, offering brief interventions and wellbeing support as part of our holistic care model
