To make things easier, we’ve put together a QMC care guide to help you understand who to book with and when, so you can feel confident you’re choosing the right care for your needs.
🚑 After Hours & Urgent Care - Best For:
- Injuries (cuts, burns, sprains, fractures)
- Sudden illness that can’t wait
- Infections that are worsening
- High fevers, dehydration, or concerning symptoms
- Anything that feels urgent but not life‑threatening
- Care options for visiting or casual patients
If it can’t wait for a routine appointment, or you’re not enrolled with QMC, Urgent Care is the right place.
🩺 GP & Nurse Practitioner Appointments - Best For:
- New or ongoing symptoms
- Minor illnesses and infections
- Skin concerns and single mole checks
- Medication reviews
- Long‑term condition management
- Referrals and follow‑up care
- Routine check‑ups
Both GPs and NPs can diagnose, treat, and prescribe.
🩺 Nurse Appointments - Best For:
- Wound care and dressings
- Immunisations and vaccinations
- Cervical smears
- Ear syringing/suction
- Liquid nitrogen (after GP assessment)
- ECGs, spirometry, audiograms
- Health checks and monitoring
- ACC follow‑up and rehab support
Not suitable for diagnosing new symptoms or prescribing.
💬 HIP (Health Improvement Practitioner) - Best For:
- Stress, anxiety, low mood
- Sleep issues
- Lifestyle changes
- Coping with illness or injury
- Short‑term wellbeing support
No referral needed. Available at Isle Street and Remarkables Park.
