Flu vaccinations are available at all three QMC locations giving you choice and flexibility. Getting your flu jab is crucial for safeguarding your health and the community. The vaccine prevents flu spread, protecting vulnerable groups. By vaccinating, you reduce the strain on healthcare and contribute to public health efforts. SERVICES

Flu vaccinations are available at all three QMC locations from 1 April

Clinical guidelines recommend flu vaccinations from the end of April to provide the most effective coverage for flu season.

QMC is able to vaccinate patients aged 65+ and those with eligible health conditions for free (see eligibility criteria on the Health New Zealand website).

For non-eligible patients the following fees apply.

Age 6 months - 64 years

$35.00

Age 50+ Fluad vaccine* (this is a non-funded option for patients of this age demographic)

$49.00

How to book

If you wish to make a booking, please either call 034410500 or book through our patient portal for a nurse appointment in any of our locations.

Funding available for eligible people.

The 2026 flu vaccine is free for people:

  • aged 65 years and over
  • who have a long-term medical condition like diabetes, asthma, or a heart condition (ages 6 months and older)
  • who are pregnant
  • aged 4 years and under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness
  • with mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder
  • who are currently accessing secondary or tertiary mental health and addiction services.

Wellsouth will also fund Maori, Pasifika patients and former refugees.

The vaccination

Appointments are quick and straightforward. If you are over 65, our nurses are able to talk you through the options (there are two vaccinations available for this age group). Our skilled nurses will make the vaccination a painless process.

How long do I need to stay after getting the vaccine?

You will need to stay between 15 and 20 minutes after getting the vaccination as a safety measure to monitor for any allergic reactions.

Is the flu vaccine painful?

Most people will only feel a pinch when getting the vaccine. Our nurses aim to make the process as comfortable as possible.

Will I feel anything after getting the vaccine?

Some common, mild side effects after getting the vaccine include:

  • Sore arm
  • Tiredness
  • Mild fever
  • Muscle aches

These usually settle within 1 - 2 days

How often do I need to get the flu vaccine?

A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over 6 months old.
