Women of the Whakatipu Coming Together for Midlife Health and Sexual Wellbeing

Wāhine from the Whakatipu came together for open kōrero on women’s health and sexual wellbeing in midlife and beyond.
A huge thank you to all the incredible wāhine who joined us for an afternoon of community, connection, and honest kōrero about women’s health in midlife and beyond 💛
On Saturday the 19th of January, wāhine from across the Whakatipu came together for a free community event hosted by Queenstown Medical Centre. The afternoon was designed to create a supportive space for conversation and learning, with a focus on women’s health in midlife and beyond - including perimenopause, menopause, and sexual wellbeing.
The event featured three insightful speakers:
- Emma Wright, Feminist Health Coach and author
- Dr Kathryn Smith, QMC General Practitioner with special interest in Women's health
- Fiona Laryn, Clinical Director at Laryn Allied Health
Together, they offered practical knowledge, compassionate discussion, and evidence‑based guidance on everything from hormonal changes to sexuality, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.
A highlight of the event was the session with QMC GP Dr Kathryn Smith, whose expertise spans women’s health, sexual health, mental wellbeing, gender diversity, and care across all ages. Kathryn’s inclusive, empathetic approach resonated strongly with attendees.
The afternoon was filled with open conversation, shared experiences, and connection — highlighting the power of community in supporting wāhine through this natural stage of life.
QMC is proud to provide accessible education and create safe, supportive spaces for the women of the Whakatipu community. This event reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering women with knowledge and strengthening wellbeing across our community.
